The Jewish Learning Center (JLC) and Beth El Youth Programs
What makes the JLC GREAT?
Community, Community, Community: Each classroom is a kehillah (community) of Jewish learners asking questions in a safe space, learning to be proud Jews, and doing mitzvot (good deeds).
Experienced Teachers: Most of our teachers have between 6 and 20 years of teaching experience and bring a wide range of expertise to the classroom.
Experiential, Multi-sensory Learning: Teachers use a variety of teaching methods to engage students on every level from embracing Jewish history as our shared family story, to Hebrew language acquisition through games and yoga, participating in StorahTelling (using creative dramatics in Torah study), to chevrutah (paired) study. Our students take the lead in participating in many social action projects. Our JLC students are engaged in active learning while receiving a fun, fulfilling and engaging Jewish education.
Programs Include:
-- Sunday Morning Learning (Gr. K–5) and Wednesday Afternoon Learning (Gr. 3-6)
-- Complete Bar and Bat Mitzvah Preparation (JLC classes, Beth El tutors and workshops)
-- New Gesher Program - a unique middle school experience exclusively for our Grade 6 and 7 students. Gesher means "bridge" and we believe that during your child’s middle school years they will be creating their own “bridge” bringing them into a more adult understanding of their place within the congregation, the Jewish community, and the world. There are many opportunities for field trips, Shabbatonim, special guest speakers and taking part in various service projects. Iyr sixth grade students continue a two day a week program (Monday and Wednesday afternoons). Our seventh grade B’nei Mitzvah students attend the Gesher program one day a week (Monday afternoons) plus also required to complete 15 hours of service.
